The largest door to door food bank drive in Canada just got bigger. Since 2001, Ontario apartment owners have been gathering food and raising funds for food banks in that province and this year, with its growing presence in Toronto, Hollyburn Properties Limited is joining the Spring H.O.P.E. Food Drive.
The idea is to give landlords and their residents an opportunity to make an online donation that will go directly to their local food bank. Volunteers will also go door to door in each building to gather non-perishable food items. This year, on April 24th, between 6:30 pm and 9pm, the Greater Toronto Apartment Association hopes to gather over 100,000 pounds of food at the organization’s 800 participating buildings.

“Year after year, the GTAA prove how committed they are to helping fight hunger,” said Gail Nyberg, Executive Director of the Daily Bread Food Bank. “I am always impressed by the generosity of the people who donate food to this drive, or donate their time to help collect food in their buildings. The donations will be a huge help in allowing us to continue providing food to those who need it.”

Across Ontario, over 240 property management companies are involved in the event, which will reach approximately 160,000 apartments.
